Best WordPress hosting UK

By the Grow & Guard editorial team · Last updated · 7 min read

WordPress runs on almost any decent host, so the real choice is between standard hosting, where you install and look after WordPress yourself, and managed WordPress hosting, where the host does more of the work. Here is how the main UK options compare.

What WordPress needs from a host

WordPress.org's own requirements are modest: a current version of PHP, MySQL 8.0 or later (or MariaDB) and HTTPS support. All the hosts below meet these. What separates them is backups, caching, support and price.

Krystal also migrates your first three sites for free. Read our Krystal review.

Tips for a fast, safe WordPress site

  • Use a lightweight theme and as few plugins as you need. Each plugin is code you have to keep updated.
  • Turn on automatic updates for minor WordPress releases and keep plugins up to date.
  • Use your host's caching (LiteSpeed Cache on Krystal and Hostinger) rather than stacking caching plugins.
  • Make sure backups are daily and test a restore once, before you need it.
  • Protect the login with a strong unique password and two-factor authentication. Our small business security checklist covers the rest.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need managed WordPress hosting?
Not always. Standard hosting with a one-click installer is fine for many small sites if you keep WordPress and plugins updated. Managed hosting is worth it when the site is business-critical and you want the host to handle more maintenance.
Does managed WordPress hosting include email?
Often not. Krystal's managed WordPress plans, for example, do not include mailboxes, though you can add email at checkout. Standard hosting plans usually include email.
What is the cheapest good WordPress hosting in the UK?
Hostinger had the lowest upfront prices when we checked, on 48-month terms. Krystal's £7 a month cPanel plan costs more upfront but has no renewal increase on monthly billing.
